Mental Health Services in Tempe

In 2020, 11% of children in Arizona had anxiety or depression. In 2022, 39% of Arizonan young adults reported feeling depressed or anxious most of the time. There were similar results for adults as a whole.

There’s a clear need for behavioral healthcare in Arizona. That’s why we opened Lifeline Behavioral Health over twenty years ago. Our goal was and always will be to provide individualized, evidence-based therapy to individuals in need.

Over the years, we’ve had the privilege of meeting countless people and tending to just as many different behavioral health concerns. From intense anger and ADHD to eating disorders, personality disorders, and everything in between, we’ve seen it all. That experience, paired with our expertly trained staff, has equipped us to treat everyone who needs care, no matter their condition or who they are.

That means you and your loved one, too! We want to help you and take some of what’s weighing on you off your shoulders. We’re here to listen, walk alongside you, and most importantly, encourage you to grow and lead your best life.

Why Choose Lifeline Behavioral Health

At Lifeline Behavioral Health, making evidence-based care more accessible to Tempe and the rest of Arizona is one of our top priorities. Part of that is offering counseling for everything, to everyone. We provide care for all ages, from children less than a year old to elderly adults approaching one hundred. We’ve worked hard to make Lifeline Behavioral Health a safe, nonjudgmental space for everyone. That includes LGBTQIA+ people, who we encourage to explore not only their identity but the additional challenges that come alongside it. Therapy should be customized to you and your personal concerns, and that’s exactly what you’ll receive if you choose to trust us with your care.

An additional part of making treatment more accessible is our telehealth and hybrid options. This allows individuals who might face obstacles physically making it to therapy to still receive the evidence-based treatment they deserve.

Our Mental Health Treatment Programs

Counseling is at the heart of what we do at Lifeline Behavioral Health. Our therapy options are scientifically proven to improve mental health and transform lives. We offer individual, group, and family therapy, but it’s so much more than that, too.

Youth face unique challenges as they grow up. Adults can live turbulent lives, too, but children, adolescents, and young adults’ lives can change rapidly, and that takes adjustment. If you add childhood trauma or mental health conditions on top of those physical, mental, and emotional changes, you have a young individual in desperate need of behavioral health support. That’s why we offer unique programs for different age groups. This includes care for trauma and mental health conditions in young children, and building communities for preteens, teens, and young adults to work through what’s most relevant to them.

If you’ve recently run into trouble with the law and were ordered to attend counseling or classes by a court, we can help you, too. We work alongside local courts to ensure we provide the therapy and resources they require. This includes substance use counseling, anger management classes, and much more.

Lifeline Behavioral Health offers group counseling and tempe mental health services focusing on specific topics, allowing individuals to find community through shared experiences and learn from one another. Our adult groups cover cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), women’s wellness, men’s, maintaining long-term recovery from substance use disorders, parenting, concerns specific to veterans and first responders, and health anxiety. Adolescents have groups as well, including DBT, teen empowerment, cognitive skills, and general mental health groups.

A Look at Our Program Options

Our intensive outpatient program (IOP) allows participants to attend three groups of their choice and one individual counseling session per week. This usually lasts for eight or four weeks, but if you need additional therapy, we’d be happy to provide it. We also won’t leave you to fend for yourself after your program is complete – we’ll provide aftercare, too. Lifeline Behavioral Health offers IOP for both adults and adolescents.

A partial hospitalization program (PHP) is also available at Lifeline Behavioral Health. This option is ideal if you’re seeking structured, intensive care. It includes comprehensive therapeutic interventions throughout the majority of the day. Participants will return home at night. We also provide onsite housing options if it would be a better fit for you to stay away from home for the entirety of your treatment. You’ll have access to our compassionate clinicians around the clock, and work toward healing alongside a community of people dedicated to recovery.

Common Mental Health Concerns We Treat at Our Mental Health Clinic

No behavioral health concern is too “big” or “small” at Lifeline Behavioral Health. Whether you have a debilitating mental health condition you’ve been dealing with the majority of your life, or are just experiencing a particularly stressful time right now, we’re here for you. We pride ourselves on our ability to provide a multitude of counseling options to our clients. If you’re wondering if we can help you, see the primary concerns we cover below.

ADHD

Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder – more commonly known as ADHD – is a behavioral health disorder that affects millions of children and adults each year. Those living with ADHD will have a more difficult time concentrating and have higher levels of impulsivity and hyperactivity. Though the condition cannot be cured, with proper therapy and medication, it can be managed. Lifeline provides all the tools needed to treat ADHD.

Substance Use Disorder & Addiction

Substance use disorder (SUD) is considered a mental health condition according to the DSM-5. Treatment for SUD can include therapy, detox, rehab stays, and support groups. We also offer intensive outpatient therapy and outpatient therapy for those managing addiction or polysubstance use. Addiction can span beyond substance use, and our team can treat many different forms, including gambling, sex, food, and more.

Aging & Health

It is inevitable that we all age, and both physical and mental health can take a toll in the process. At Lifeline Behavioral Health, we provide guided therapy to give yourself grace and understand what is going on internally. Aging is beautiful, and we empower you to see the light within.

Anger Management

Anger is a natural emotion, and it is okay to feel angry at times. But when anger starts interfering with relationships, job performance, and everyday life, it may be time to think about seeking help. Our team of caring therapists will teach you to cope with anger in healthy ways and give you a better understanding of the emotions behind it.

Anxiety

Anxiety is one of the most common mental health conditions in adolescents, young adults, and adults. The condition can manifest in different ways and each person will have different triggers. Lifeline Behavioral Health inspires our clients through therapy and coping skill development to manage their anxiety in healthy and productive ways. In some cases, medication may also be utilized for treatment.

Behavioral Health Concerns

While not every behavioral health concern signals a disorder, we work with each client to discover the causes of the negative behaviors. Whether acting out from moving to a new place or a behavioral health disorder, our team will teach you how to navigate through the process of feeling like yourself again.

Bipolar Disorder

Bipolar disorder is a mental health condition that can affect mood in drastic ways. This can include episodes of 'highs' where the person feels emotionally charged and episodes of 'lows' where symptoms of depression are noticed. Cognitive behavioral therapy in an individual and group setting has proven to treat bipolar disorder, and both are offered at Lifeline Behavioral Health.

Depression

Like anxiety, depression is a very common mental health condition affecting numerous adults and adolescents each year. Depression can range from mild to severe and can make you feel like you are losing yourself. Lifeline Behavioral Health recognizes these feelings and treats the condition with medication, therapy, and support groups.

Domestic Violence

Lifeline Behavioral Health treats domestic violence (DV) from both sides. If you are a victim of DV, our team will work with you to heal from the past trauma and develop coping skills to move forward with your life. If you are a DV offender, we offer a non-judgmental space for you to address your emotions and work to manage them in a healthy way.

Gender & Sexual Identification

Understanding your gender and sexual identification can be confusing, and when you don’t have a safe place to express your feelings, your mental health can deteriorate. At Lifeline Behavioral Health, we pride ourselves in offering a non-judgemental safe space for you to explore and express your identity. We empower you to navigate the feelings you are experiencing and understand your gender and sexuality.

Grief & Loss

Grief and loss can occur at any time, and often when we are the least prepared. Lifeline Behavioral Health provides therapy for children and adults to process the trauma of loss and cope with feelings of grief. Group therapies also provide support through hearing and expressing emotions and similar stories.

Life Changes

Therapy and mental health treatment is not just for those who have a condition. An unexpected move to a new state, job loss, relationship changes, and financial strain can cause emotional responses and mood swings. Lifeline Behavioral Health offers therapy sessions for you to express your feelings to handle life changes in a positive way.

Medication Management

The dedicated team of medical professionals at Lifeline Behavioral Health provides management over any prescription medications. These can include antidepressants, anti-anxiety medications, and many more. You will never have to worry about calling in refills or running out of your medication.

Mood Management

Understanding mood swings and changes can be frustrating, especially when they seem to come out of nowhere. At Lifeline Behavioral Health, we will work with you to understand what is going on and where these mood changes are coming from. Our goal is to teach you to manage your moods like a passing wave, not an uncontrollable tsunami.

Post-Divorce Challenges

After a divorce, it can seem impossible to figure out how to co-parent. Our team at Lifeline Behavioral Health offers a safe place for each parent to express their concerns without posing harm to the child(ren). This is especially important as constant fighting can cause trauma. We also work with the family as a whole to ensure everyone is on the same page moving forward.

PTSD

Those who have witnessed or experienced a traumatic event – physical/mental/emotional abuse, sudden death of a loved one, serious medical event, etc – can develop PTSD and have flashbacks or panic attacks associated with the trauma. Lifeline Behavioral Health understands how serious this condition can be, and provides extensive therapy to process, heal, and manage PTSD.

Serious Mental Illness (SMI)

Serious mental illnesses can range from anxiety disorders, psychotic disorders, eating disorders, and personality disorders. In SMIs, the symptoms of the disorder have become so severe that functional impairment has occurred. However, this does not mean the condition is hopeless, and Lifeline Behavioral Health is well-equipped to handle these cases. We offer a wide range of therapies and medications that may not have been tried in the past, allowing the person to heal and feel like themselves again.

Stress

Coping with stress can be difficult, and when you feel like none of your usual reliefs are working, Lifeline Behavioral Health is here to help. Managing stress can take a toll on the body and mind, and we will work with you to develop a plan that works for you. Individual counseling can help you create a routine that allows you to live stress-free.

Trauma

When trauma is left untreated, it can grow into other mental health conditions and even manifest with physical aches and pains. Our compassionate team at Lifeline Behavioral Health specializes in addressing and healing traumas. With group and individual therapy, you will face your trauma head-on and take away the power it has over you.

Work-Life Balance

There is nothing wrong with being dedicated to your job, but when that job becomes what you eat, sleep, and do, your work-life balance is out of sync. Here at Lifeline Behavioral Health, we work with you to understand how crucial having your own time is to your mental and physical health. Creating routines, practicing self-care, and regular therapy can help you restore the balance between work and home life.
